First Galaxy Z Fold 4 renders are here and major spec bump

Updated: May 14, 2022

Thanks to leaker Steve H.McFly and Smartprix, we have the first look at the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Now you will probably think this is Galaxy Z Fold 3 and I’m not gonna blame you either. They are identical, only difference is that it will have water drop camera design just like the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The Fold 3 comes with a 12MP main camera, a 12MP telephoto unit with 2x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide module which isn’t a flagship grade camera setup in the Galaxy world but this year we might see major camera sensor upgrade on the Z Fold 4. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is rumored to feature 108MP main sensor as well as its 10MP 3x telephoto unit. Which will be enough to make it flagship grade camera setup. Kinda.

The Z Fold 4 will feature the same 7.6-inches foldable main display and 6.2-inches cover screen just like the current model. But what we are hearing is that the displays will have a wider aspect ratio. That will be obvious when you look at the dimension of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 ( 155x130x7.1mm) compared to Galaxy Z Fold 3’s (158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4mm)

Samsung will of course make the phone durable even more just like they did every year. But two rumors saying that the Fold 4 will feature under display selfie camera on the cover display and will offer s-pen slot seems like not happening. And there are reasons behind these. First under display cameras offer very little advantage over a typical punch holes which are already so small. Then the trade offs that come with under display cameras including the output quality are little too much to satisfy any consumer paying that much amount. As for the S-pen slot the fold has very little space left inside at this moment to house a slot for the S-Pen.

As for the other known specs the Fold 4 will offer same battery capacity as the last model and 25Watt fast charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, which will apparently be manufactured by TSMC only according to leaker Yogesh Brar. This SoC could be 10 percent faster than the Gen 1 manufactured by Samsung and also it will be much more power efficient.

Samsung will announce device in August. And it will face insane competition this year cause a lot of companies are jumping into the foldable device segments unlike past years.
