Galaxy Watch 3 will not be Updated to Wear OS, sadly
Samsung has provided a first look of One UI recently . It’s the custom interface that will be made by Samsung & Google together. This platform is Android-based. Tizen will no longer power next galaxy smartwatches.
If you’re a past galaxy watch owner, then here’s a bad news for you.
Samsung confirmed during its MWC 2021 virtual event today that it will provide “up to 3 years of software updates” to Tizen-based smartwatches. This includes everything from your Galaxy Watch Active to the Galaxy Watch 3. What’s bad in it? Well, This just confirms that Samsung will not upgrade this watches to Wear platform, even if the hardware is capable enough.
Galaxy Watch 3 owners will be hurt deeply by this. I can feel it. It’s not even that old, less than a year.
It seems like a very wrong move by Samsung. However, it seems it’s not Samsung, it’s Google who don’t want this to happen. You know what’s even worst, Google is also reportedly not allowing existing Wear OS smartwatches to be upgraded.

That doesn’t mean next Tizen OS will not feature major features. It will just miss out on the improvements that the new unified platform brings, including support for Android apps. That’s kinda sad.
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Watch 4 at its next Unpacked event very soon.
