Google I/O 2023: What to expect

Updated: May 20

The huge event will start on May 10 at 10AM PT (5PM UTC) in Mountain View, California's Shoreline Amphitheatre and will be livestreamed on YouTube.

First, Android 14 will improve its features and security. It will have better resource management, tablet and foldable device support, accessibility features, and customization options. It will also block old Android apps, prevent code injection, and make user authentication and password management easier.

Google is ready to enter the foldable phone market with the Pixel Fold. Pixel Fold will have a similar design to the Oppo Find N and Find N2 with a 7.6-inch inner screen in landscape mode. The main screen will likely be a OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and some visible bezels. The outer screen will probably be 5.8 inches. Pixel Fold’s rumored size is 158.7 x 139.7 x 5.8mm (8.3mm with rear camera bump).

Google’s Tensor G2 chipset is expected to power the device along with a 48MP main camera, two 10.8 MP cameras on the back for 5x zoom and ultra-wide angle shots and one 8MP front camera for the main and 9.5MP selfie camera for the outer screen. Pixel Fold will reportedly cost $1,799 in the US and it’s expected to be available from June 27.

Next Pixel 7a, the budget-friendly Google Pixel. It will feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is likely to have the same Tensor G2 as the other two Pixel 7 phones along with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage as the base option. The back of the Pixel 7a will have a dual camera setup with a 64MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera. A 13MP front-facing camera is expected too. The phone will probably have a 4,385 mAh battery with 20W wired charging and wireless charging which would be new for the Pixel A-series. The Pixel 7a is anticipated to cost $499 in the US and will undoubtedly go on sale on May 11 in India

If you can't remember at last year’s Google I/O event Pixel Tablet was first shown so we can finally see it become official this time. It’s likely to have an 11-inch LCD screen with a 1600 x 2560px resolution, a premium design and the Tensor G2 chipset. Google wants the Pixel Tablet to be versatile which is why it will also release a Charging Speaker Dock which makes the slate into a smart speaker/Nest Hub device.

As with previous Google events we might get some previews and hints for the next-gen Pixel phones – the Pixel 8 series as well as details for the Pixel Watch 2 and new Pixel Buds.
