Google's first foldable phone is shown up close in a leaked Pixel Fold hands-on video

Updated: May 5

We have previously seen renderd images of the Pixel Fold. Today’s clip shows us the best view yet of Google’s first foldable smartphone, though it does skip some details after all its not a review. The video was posted by developer Kuba Wojciechowski. The video agrees with previous reports and the likelihood of it being real is high. The inner screen has large top and bottom edges, with the top one containing the selfie camera. One best thing is that because of an new type of hinge it has very little crease as you can see in the video. The device folds flat, which kinda confirms that it uses a waterdrop hinge.

The Pixel Fold is expected to feature a 5.8-inch external display with a 1080 x 1900 resolution. The internal tablet-sized 7.6" display will have a resolution of 1840 × 2208, 6:5 aspect ratio and possibly a 120Hz refresh rate. Unlike the portrait-oriented display found inside the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Pixel Fold screen will be more landscape oriented, kinda like the oppo find n2 fold. First foldable Pixel will sport Samsung's M13 display material set. If this turns out to be true, the Pixel Fold will be the first to use this technology. Surprisingly, Samsung is planning to stick with the M12 display material set for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

In addition, the video reveals the actual fingerprint scanner, volume controls, and just a portion of the edge of the horizontal camera bar, which will house the three rear cameras. The Pixel Fold's camera array was revealed by developer Kuba Wojciechowski found inside the Android 13 QPR1 beta. The code relates to a Samsung 10MP S5K3J1 sensor for the telephoto lens and the front-facing selfie camera, a Sony 64MP IMX787 primary camera, an IMX386 12 MP ultrawide cameras. In addition, an 8MP IMX355 sensor is located above the inner display. The other camera components are all very well-known, but the best part is that the 64MP IMX787 is Sony's new flagship sensor and you know google has some software magic on top of that.

In terms of size, the pixel fold will fall between the oppo find n2 fold and the Galaxy z fold 4. It will be 5.5 inches tall by 3.1 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick which is shorter yet wider when folded than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4's size of 6.1 inches tall by 2.6 inches wide by 0.6 inches thick.

The Pixel Fold is also expected to be a bit heavier than its direct competitor, at 10 ounces (or about 283 grams), and sadly for Google, the Z Fold 5 could come in just a few months with a few more grams cut off its predecessor’s 263-gram weight.

According to the rumor, Google may offer the Pixel Fold the biggest folding battery to date. The battery won't have 5,000mAh, but it'll reportedly be close. However, according to CNBC, it may be large enough to offer a battery life of 24 hours. It'll also pack 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM across all configurations. Two color options and two storage option 256GB and 512GB in either chalk (white) or obsidian (black) colors.

The first-gen Pixel Fold will also have a Tensor G2 processor that will provide the raw power, which is fine by current Google chip standards but not as fast as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the Z Fold 4 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy that recently showed its strength in early Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 tests.

you really care about battery life, which Google will reportedly rate at 24 hours or up to as much as 72 hours in a “low power mode.” That definitely sounds like a significant possible advantage over the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The affordable Pixel 7a and the Pixel Tablet are expected to be unveiled alongside it on May 10 at Google I/O, and jon Prosser says that Google is planning to release a teaser next Wednesday, April 26th, which will also kick off the pre-order period. It is anticipated to go on sale on June 27.

What is the price of the Pixel Fold?

There have been several estimates put out, ranging from $1,400 to $1,800. According to a CNBC story, the cost will be more than $1,700. But jon Prosser says that the 256GB version of the Pixel Fold (in chalk and obsidian) will be priced at $1,799 while a 512GB variant (obsidian only) will be tagged at $1,919.
