Qualcomm confirms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is manufactured by Samsung Foundry
Recently Qualcomm announced their flagship chip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, built on the 4nm process. Even though it was not confirmed at the time who manufactured this chip. But now some Qualcomm executives have now shared that information.
Just like with the Snapdragon 888 (2020), Samsung Foundry is again manufactured this years flagship chip from Qualcomm. On the other hand, the older Snapdragon 865 (2019) and Snapdragon 855 (2018) models were made by TSMC. This year TSMC is more busy making different Apple silicons.
The confirmation came from Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon, who revealed at the company’s annual Tech summit (via SamMobile).
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’ isn’t the only one in the market with 4nm process node, the A15 Bionic from Apple, MediaTek’s recent chip Dimensity 9000 are also based on the same process node. And even the upcoming Exynos 2200 with AMD GPU will come with the same process node. That simply means all of them are equipped with great power efficiency. It will be interesting to see how all of them will compete with each other.
