Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 may come with bold new configuration like Apple
Updated: Jun 16, 2022

Qualcomm recently showcased their slightly refreshed Flagship SoC, The Snapdragon 8 + gen 1 just last month, and now we have infos about its successor, which might be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Most of the SoCs in the Android world have an octa-core CPUs with three clusters(1+3+4), but it looks like that’s about to change. The snapdragon 8 gen 2 will feature highly unusual 1+2+2+3 CPU configuration, according to Leaker Digital Chat Station.
The Leaker claims that SM8550 Kailua, which apparently is the model number and codename of the Snapdragon 8 Gne 2 will be based on TSMC's 4nm process.
Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 has the 1+3+4 cpu cluster, featuring one prime Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex A710 cores, and four high efficiency Cortex A510 cores. Few years back the flagship chips used to have four high performance cores and four efficiency cores.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will however have one prime Cortex-X3 core, which is yet to be announced, two Cortex-A720 cores, two current A710 cores, and three efficient A510 cores. The tipster also adds that it will come with the Adreno 740 GPU.
The Cortex-X3 and A720 promise an up to 30% more peak CPU performance compared to the X1 cores of the snapdragon 888. It definitely look small improvement over the current snapdragon flagship, the snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It maybe that this performance measured at equal clock speeds. But because we heard that the chip will be based on the TSMC’s 4nm process node, we can expect even higher clock speeds. So more performance. This is gonna be the first chip in the android world at the very least to feature 4 different types of CPU cores.
As for the Adreno 740 GPU, we don’t now much. But It will use same architecture as the current Adreno 730 GPU. We have to wait for news to come in or we have to till Q4 of this year cause that’s usually the time when Qualcomm announces the flagship chips every year.
