Xiaomi was once focused on low to midrange smartphone. Then they shifted their focus to take on Samsung & Apple. Three years back, Xiaomi became no. 1 in an one of the fastest growing smartphone market, India defeating Samsung. Now it is being reported that the Xiaomi has become the world’s biggest smartphone maker dethroning Samsung for the first time ever. Now this is the second Chinese smartphone brand after Huawei, to do that.
According to Counterpoint Research data, Samsung’s market share dropped to 15.7%. While Xiaomi rose to the number one position in the month of June, with a market share of 17.1%. While Apple grabbed a healthy 14.3% share of the global smartphone market.
Xiaomi’s sales grew 26% month-on-month compared to the previous month (from 26 to 53 million unit sales between Q2 2020 and Q2 2021).
Believe it or not Huawei's fast decline massively benefited Xiaomi, it literally took the place of huawei in China & Globally.
In fact, Xiaomi was the top smartphone brand in EU for three months between April and June with a market share of about 25%.
But keep this in mind, the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G with reduced price tags this year, are just a few days away from getting launched & also recent leaks suggesting the popular Galaxy S20 FE’s successor, the Galaxy S21 FE is coming really soon. So Samsung has big chance to flip the smartphone market chart in August at the very least.
Then again, we have to wait to see if Samsung foldables will be able to do that where there will not be a mainstream Galaxy Note flagship this year to compete. But nonetheless the competiton is on fire.
