Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 isn’t happening but not that way
Updated: Nov 19, 2021
According to the leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Qualcomm might ditch both the Snapdragon 898 and Snapdragon 895 for its next-generation chip. Instead, the company is planning to name its next flagship chipset "Snapdragon 8 Gen 1,".
Ice universe, on Twitter, says that Qualcomm is looking for new naming scheme, but nothing is "finalized" yet. Qualcomm has named the current chip Snapdragon 888 which was also rumored to be named as Snapdragon 875. But now, it looks like they will call the next one neither snapdragon 898 nor snapdragon 895, rather "Snapdragon 8 Gen 1." Which is totally different of a name if you look at the naming scheme of the past like snapdragon 800, snapdragon 835, snapdragon 845 and so on.
The chipset might feature a major performance gain at least in terms of GPU over the Snapdragon 888 so it hype things up they are gonna name it "Gen 1,". The chipset has the codename SM8450. We saw the leaked specs recently.
In addition to the new specs, it will feature a faster X65 5G modem that will be able to provide a maximum download speed of 10 Gbps.
Qualcomm is expected to announce the chipset on November 30, 2021,
