Samsung has announced Exynos 2200 reveal date

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

Samsung has finally announced that they will reveal the in-house Exynos 2200 chip sooner than you might expect which will most likely power the Galaxy S22 series coming.

If you don’t know Samsung and AMD have been working on a GPU for quite some time which will help the upcoming flagship SoC by Samsung, the Exynos 2200 to have a better graphics performance. The company has now confirmed that the RDNA 2 GPU-powered Exynos chip will be unveiled on January 11, which is also the exact same date when the Galaxy S21 FE is rumored to go on sale.

Samsung last year embraced ARM's CPU designs in the form of Exynos 2100, but this year they are trying to up their game by using the AMD-made GPU which will take care of the graphics.

Qualcomm recently unveiled their flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which already has a massive GPU upgrade compared to last model, the snapdragon 888. The Exynos 2200 is expected to have the same core architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which will power the Galaxy S22 series in few markets like US and china.

According to a tweet from tipster AhmedQwaider (@AhmedQwaider888), the CPU improvement between the Exynos 2100 and 2200 is only 5% with a 17% improvement in GPU performance.

Exynos 2200 is rumored to feature an NPU with a 117% improvement in AI.

Now, these alleged CPU/GPU/NPU gains may not be done on a consumer grade device, so take them with a pinch of salt. We also have to keep this in mind that today's premium phones are plenty fast already and has more than enough performance for everyday tasks and even hardcore gaming. More than RAW power its all about optimization that makes the whole experience better overall. But it is always good to see how one SoC from one brand will stack up against the competing flagship chips from other manufacturers. Samsung will allegedly announce the Galaxy S22 series in February. We will get to know more about the Exynos 2200 with AMD GPU soon.
