Samsung's AMD-based GPU delayed & will be faster than ARM’s offerings even after throttling

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Samsung is going to unveil the first GPU which it has co-developed with AMD in July, says popular leaker Ice Universe.

Earlier this month, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that Samsung's next flagship mobile chipset will feature the company's RDNA 2 graphics technology. The chip will come with ray tracing and variable rate shading capabilities.

Samsung was earlier rumored to reveal the AMD-based GPU this month but now according to the leaker, July is the month for details. Exynos with AMD GPU might debut with the Galaxy S22 series, will be called Exynos 2200.

On the other hand Qualcomm going to use Adreno 730 GPU on the next gen flagship processor which might be a significant upgrade over Snapdragon 888's Adreno 660, so it will be interesting to see the upcoming battle. Either way, it's a win-win for we, the consumers.

According to South Korea's Clien, AMD GPU on Samsung processor will overtake competing products in peak performance but the most important thing is that the performance will be throttled by up to 30 percent, presumably to prevent overheating issues. But Despite that, it's still going to be considerably more powerful than ARM’s Mali GPUs. It will be really interesting to see the final results. Not just that A new report claims that Samsung is maybe hiring former CPU engineers from Apple and AMD for the next gen chipsets.
