Samsung’s ‘metalens’ tech could reduce smartphone camera bumps

Samsung revealed that it is working on flat ‘metalens’ technology to make smartphone cameras even thinner.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics executive told that the company is working on metalens, a flat lens system that uses nano-sized particles instead of standard curved lenses to bend light waves. This is a replacement of complex multi-lens systems that we se today, using just a single lens, that means no need for camera bumps. So no camera bump.

When the technology is completely developed and ready for consumers, the company hopes to use it first in its own products, then slowly to other smartphone makers. Exciting times ahead.
