The 2,500-nit display on the iPhone 15 Ultra will be a killer

The display was arguably one of the best features of the expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Both featured an improved ProMotion technology (also known as adaptive refresh rate LTPO 2.0 tech), which allowed for the first time in iPhone history to provide Always On Display capability.

An other, less noticeable improvement was a rise in peak brightness levels. On the Pro variants, peak brightness was a record 2000 nits. With the release of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is reported to be called the iPhone 15 Ultra, next year, it appears that this number might increase even higher.

This information was obtained through a leak from ShrimpApplePro, which was then reported in-depth by Apple Insider. The insider claims that Samsung is developing a screen for the iPhone 15 Pro Max that has a peak brightness of 2500 nits.

As Apple is allegedly looking on methods to further differentiate iPhone models and extend the difference between the 6.1" and 6.7" high-end pro variations, the enhancement may only apply to the expensive iPhone 15 Ultra.

Nevertheless, at this moment these leaks should be treated with a grain of salt. Furthermore, it will likely be September 2023 before the iPhone 15 makes its appearance.

As a point of comparison, the current maximum 2000 nits of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are mostly unopposed as even the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra from this year has a lower brightness display.

However, it should be noted that the screens of the 14 Pro models seldom attain their maximum brightness under typical conditions. For it to occur, it must be exposed to direct sunlight and other favourable weather conditions.
