The Dimensity 9000 is more powerful than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 in Geekbench 5 benchmark

Reliable leaker Ice Universe has just shared a new Geekbench 5 results, which is clearly showing the performance differences between the most powerful smartphone chips on the market right now.

Even though Apple’s A15 Bionic is still keeping the lead, both in the single and multi-core score but believe it or not the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is the second best and the performance numbers are very close to the A15 Bionic.

Now the third one is surprisingly the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with a good amount of performance difference from the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. That’s kinda surprising considering the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has almost similar CPU cores. Just the GPU is different.

Whereas if you look at the Exynos 2200 with AMD RDNA2 based GPU, it is the weakest of all the major three chips. The performance is very close to the last years Snapdragon 888. It look like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is sitting between the Dimensity 9000 and the Exynos 2200 from Samsung.

While it is easy to draw conclusions from these synthetic benchmarks scores. But the real life performance is always going to be different. The biggest factors that change the whole game for a user is the optimisation and very good sustained performance. Both are also related to each other.

The peak performance is something we look at to see how powerful the chip actually is. Now because today’s smartphones can’t really have a proper cooling system, throttling is a very normal thing. But how much throttling and how fast it will come into play, depends on how efficient the SoC is. Anyway it’s still good to see MediaTek is taking the lead this year from Android side.
