5 years of updates, Major Camera hardware upgrades for Pixel 6 & 6 pro : Leaker

We have already seen the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro renders.

Now we have biggest leaks thanks to Front Page Tech. The leak focuses on the alleged specs of the Pixel 6 series.

Google Pixel 6 (Codename: Oriel)

• Front camera: 8MP

• Battery: 4614mAh

• Processor: Google GS101

• Ram: 8GB

Google Pixel 6 Pro (Codename: Raven)

• Screen size: 6.71″

• Display: Plastic OLED

• Rear camera setup: 50MP (Wide) + 48MP (Telephoto) + 12MP (Ultra-wide)

• Front camera: 12MP

• Battery: 5000mAh

• Processor: Google GS101

• Ram: 12GB

• Storage: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB

• OS: Android 12

As for the big upgrades, The Pixel 6 will offer a 50MP primary rear-facing camera, a 12MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens, a 8MP FFC & a reasonably big 4,614mAh cell, 8GB RAM, both 128 and 256GB storage option, and of course, pre-installed Android 12 software.

Whereas, the Pixel 6 Pro is expected to feature 12 megapixels FFC, a 50MP primary rear-facing camera, a 12MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens & a huge 48MP telephoto snapper. We still don’t know about the zoom range but it will be backed by google’s algorithm, i think that’s enough talk. The 5,000mAh battery will keep the 6.71-inch plastic OLED (P-OLED) screen run longer with proper googles optimisation, Aside from the sizes, the displays on both phones are thought to use the same tech. They'll be plastic OLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates. So google is coming in full force.

The Next Big thing is related to another rumor. Its no more a secret that Google is planning to use its own silicon (GS1001) in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Which is rumoured to be developed in collaboration with samsung. Now according Jon from FPT, google will provide at least 5 years of updates, Not talking about the Android security patches, but proper Major Android Software Updates.

One of the roadblocks to offering Android updates for more than three years is the chipset manufacturers, such as Qualcomm or MediaTek. After a certain amount of time, these companies abandon older products which makes bringing new Android versions to older devices insanely difficult.

If Google is going to use its own silicon in the Google Pixel 6 series, this won’t be a problem at all more like apple. However, Apple offers give or take five years of updates for iPhones on average. So google doing the same will make google a proper competitor to apple. We expect Google to launch the Pixel 6 series in October. Pixel 6 will be priced around $800-$900 and the pixel 6 pro around $1000-$1100. But the price is my expectation as of now. Future leaks will clear that. So stay tuned.
